so since i’ve come to spain and am “of age” i’ve been struggling with the customs and practices of bar/night club/hook-up culture that i have never even come close to experiencing until these past few weeks. these customs/practices have collectively slapped me in the face with misogyny, ranging from mildly uncomfortable to very upsetting. admittedly, i have also enjoyed myself in these venues, i’ve made new friends with whom i’ve shared some pretty fun moments. so i’ve felt very conflicted about how i’m going to deal with and experience this utterly foreign atmosphere. and i think i’m going to attempt to digest the awkward/upsetting/funny/disturbing/sexist moments i’ve observed and experienced by writing haikus about them. maybe longer poems but i really like haikus so we’ll see where that goes.
